Named after a phrase in the liner notes of the Pavement album “Wowee Zowee”, Assorted Sentinels was not a project I set out to make, but was culled from 6 x 6 images I made just before the summer between my first and last year in graduate school–often a dark time for MFA candidates. The pictures are from long walks with heavy equipment, between physical therapy appointments,  teaching, and classes. I was trying to force myself to come up with something, feeling alienated and exhausted, grappling with the meaning and value of the Master of Fine Arts degree. Maybe it’s not surprising that I found lurking horrors everywhere I pointed the camera.
Things improved after the summer.
