In the spring of 2016, the University of Washington won a court battle over the university’s right to ignore/override state and national historical building designations. The decision enabled UW to demolish More Hall Annex, also known as the Reactor Building, a once-functioning nuclear reactor maintained by students and faculty. The building itself was designed by The Architect Artist Group (TAAG), led by Wendell Lovett and Gene Zema, and represents an early turn toward the so-called Brutalist school of Modern architecture in the Pacific Northwest. The site will be used for another computer science facility.
